Katies Float Story
I first began my floating journey in 2019 during a long 7 years of medical mystery and chaos. Admittedly I was sceptical at first but too intrigued not to take the plunge.
It took a fair bit of persuading to get my partner to join me on the experience. He has spent many years suffering with severe back, hip and ankle pain (the ankle being caused by a serious break playing football). Over the years he has tried many therapies, most of which have offered very short-term relief.
Since our first float in 2019 his hip pain has never returned as severe as it was prior. The slightest back twinge or pain he now gets we book straight back in for an hour of relaxation and let the float take control. He finds stretching himself out during the second half of the session helps.
I personally suffer from a number of health conditions –
Fibromyalgia
Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
Neurocardiogenic Syncope
Inappropriate Sinus Tachycardia
Anxiety
Depression
One of my biggest fears about floating was whether I would find it claustrophobic.
Although feeling very nervous and not being sure how my body would react; and with the anxious thoughts of being shut in the pod with the lid closed we decided to throw caution to the wind and book in for an evening session. We were made to feel very welcome and put at ease from the moment we stepped through the door. Knowing I had full control of the lid being open and in charge of the lights i felt feel so much more relaxed.
I used the Halo (blue pillow) to support my head, initially I did suffer with quite a lot of pain in my neck and across my shoulders when trying to ‘let go’, but after about 10-15 minutes I was able to fully relax my head back into the water becoming pain free!
So surreal and an amazing feeling, it was the first time I had ever been truly relaxed and pain free in what has felt like forever. Within 30 minutes all signs of claustrophobia and anxiety had completely dissolved into the half tonne of Epsom Salt. Before I knew it I was floating in complete darkness and with the lid fully closed.
I have suffered with a lot of stress and anxiety over the years. Floatation therapy has been of huge benefit to me. It’s the only way I have found to completely switch my mind off and shut out the world. It also has a big impact on my sleep, the evening after a float session I have such a deep sleep and no teeth grinding. This can last for a couple of weeks giving me respite from some very long term painful conditions.
